Learn All About the Causes of Acne

Acne is basically a disorder of the human pilosebaceous unit that is made up of the sebaceous gland hair follicle and hair. These units can be found in almost every part of the human body except the soles, palms, lower lip and the top of human feet. The largest pilosebacieous unit lies on the chest upper neck region and the face, which are the acne-prone regions.

Sebum or skin oil is produced by the sebaceous gland which is primarily responsible for the moisture of the skin and skin hair. During puberty the sebaceous glands are enlarged and they tend to produce abnormally higher amounts of sebum. This abnormal production of sebum is also influenced by the hormones and the occurring hormonal changes in the body. Apart from the hormones, the androgens also affect the sebum production to a great extent. As a person crosses his teens and reaches the age of 20, the sebum production slowly reduces thereby lessening the appearance of acne.

Bacteria

Propionibacterium acnes are the main cause of bacterial acne of the skin. This bacterium resides in the skin and the skin oil or sebum is the source of nutrient for the bacteria.

It thrives on sebum and therefore it increases in the follicles during adolescence. People suffering from acne have overabundance of the Propionibacterum acnes in the follicles than others who have not experienced the acne outbreaks.

The very presence of these bacteria becomes a major source of attraction for the white blood cells to the hair follicle. The white blood cells in turn produces an enzyme that further damages the follicle wall thereby permitting the follicle contents to enter the skin, particularly the dermis later. This process leads to an inflammatory response that appears in the form of nodules, papules and pustules. These bacteria are also responsible for the formation of fatty acids that act as irritants for the skin and also increase the process of inflammation in the hair follicle.

The normal follicles do not pose to be a problem for the skin. The production of sebum is a natural process. However, when the sebaceous gland produces larger amounts of sebum it tends to become an obstruction for the hair follicle thereby causing acne flare ups.

When sebum gets trapped in the follicle it leads to the entire problem. This is what results in the formation of acne, blackheads and whiteheads.

Although there are  other relevant causes of acne and pimples, this particular cause remains on top of the list. This is indeed a primary factor that leads to acne eruptions.

Will a piercer pierce my lower lip if i have really light acne on my face?

I have very light acne on my face mainly around my chin and i really want to get a lower left lip piercing with a captive bead ring… but some people i know say you cant have one little dot on your face to have a lip ring. Is this true or do you think they will do it no problem?

This is not true. A piercer is not going to turn you away because of acne, especially if it’s just light acne. Just make sure to wash your face regularly and keep your new piercing clean and you should be fine.
