I think this what the interviewer is trying to do is find out what kind of personality you have. For example: If someone said my hobbies are: playing World of Warcraft … while not necessarily a bad taste, gives the impression of someone who can not be social or has little in the way of goals. If anyone on the otherhand said: "I like going to the gym, playing football and hanging out with friends" gives the impression that you is sociable, have goals and commitment to things … So the question is asked, wants to demonstrate through their hobbies a link to work … if a job where you meet people and talk to people all the time, it is necessary to highlight hobbies that would help do the job.
