Acne Reduce Inflammation
Acne on chest – using glycolic acid but more spots appear. Is differin better?

Hi – I’ve had some awful spots on my chest now for nearly 2 months – I have oily skin – but the skin on my chest isn’t oily at all – I don’t get what is causing the spots and blackheads etc. My doctors said it was acne and eprscribed me differin which I used for a few days – but as it had been getting me down so much I went see a dermatologist who perscribed an avene/aknicare regime of using gylcolic acid containing lotion on my chest. But this just seems to aggrivate it and new spots have come up – what can I do? IS it worth sticking with the aggrivating diacneal lotion, or is it avisable to return to differin even though I’ve been using other products for a few days.
Also is it possible to alternate as differin reduces inflammation?
Thank you for any advice given – this acne has knocked my confidence, particularly in relationships – I feel so unnattractive. MY face isn’t even that bad, just these horrific spots on my chest…

My goodness if you are in the UK your GP has an unacceptably low threshold for specialist referral. This would indicate either a lack of knowledge or confidence or both! 95+% of all acne is generally dealt with in General Practice without referral.

Chest or back acne seldom responds well to topical cleansers and antibiotics are usually the management of choice. Sometimes these can be applied topically as roll-ons and there more than a dozen of these. More often oral antibiotics are needed, in my view the evidence is that minocycline or lymecycline are the best of these, with erythromycin (always as the succinate,) being the alternative for those allergic to tetracyclines. Old fashioned tetracycline or oxytetracycline are difficult to take as is doxycycline and also less effective.
